Get Involved
As a Community Action Agency, STEP cannot make an impact without support from our community! Donors and volunteers are both tremendously important to our organization.
There are two ways you can directly support STEP's mission:

Available volunteer and service opportunities
STEP Office of Aging
- PA MEDI – Individuals assist the 65+ public with the application for supplemental insurance at the time of Medicare Annual Enrollment (October-December); assist individuals with insurance issues when planning retirement; provide unbiased assistance/education/information when choosing insurance. All individuals must pass PA MEDI certification process and complete on-going training to provide insurance counseling.
- Ombudsman – individuals assist residents in Nursing Facilities, Personal Care Homes, and LIFE Centers with mediating issues that arise. All individuals must pass the two-tiered training and must maintain certification by completing ongoing training.
- Center for Healthy Aging Volunteers – opportunities include: Volunteer Driver (Meals on Wheels), Partner/Non-Driver (Meals on Wheels), Packer (Meals on Wheels), Volunteer Kitchen Assistant, Games Leader, Technology Trainer, Activities/Program Assistant, Greeter, Exercise Leader and/or Assistant, Programs Leader, Library/Resource Leader.

- STEP Board of Directors - we are always recruiting for our board in order to minimize vacancies. Maximum participation from the communities we serve is an important part of Community Action, and we value your voice and experience.

STEP AmeriCorps
- Head to the STEP AmeriCorps page to learn more about our program for service and volunteerism at local nonprofit organizations. AmeriCorps provides opportunities for Americans of all backgrounds to serve their country, address the nation’s most pressing challenges, and improve lives and communities.
Other Opportunities
- If you have a project or donation in mind for yourself or your organization, please reach out to us! Annual projects that require community support include Santa's Seniors for the STEP Office of Aging and the Mitten Tree for our Head Start students.
Volunteer Impacts
- 710 STEP Head Start, Early Head Start, and Pre-K Counts parent volunteers contributed 16,039 hours.
- STEP Office of Aging volunteers provided 41,838 hours of service.
- STEP Board of Directors members gave 225 hours through meetings, training, events, and planning.
